North-East Waste Litter campaign

In 2014, the Victorian Government established seven Waste and Resource Recovery Groups (WRRGs) which are state government statutory authorities. One of the seven WRRGs, the North East Waste Resource Recovery Group constists of seven councils (Alpine, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Indigo, Benalla, Towong and Mansfield) and three Alpine resorts (Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller/Mt Stirling).

The geographic area that falls under the jurisdiction of the North Eastern WRRG, is located in regional Victoria and incorporates a number of alpine areas. These areas are subject to large numbers of visitors which has resulted in an increase in litter. While most visitors are respectful of the areas they visit, the issue of litter not being placed in appropriate repositories, is a constant issue.

In 2022, Bite was commissioned to create a communications campaign to both educate and encourage visitors in these areas of the North Eastern WRRG, to place litter in the bins that are provided and not to discard litter inappropriately. We created visual branding to reinforce the messaging and applied it to: Poster, Postcard, Social Media Tiles (Facebook and Instagram), TV Screen graphic.

The campaign seeks to create awareness among visitors about the importance of proper waste management and the impact of litter on the environment. By providing visitors with a visual reminder of the importance of disposing of their litter properly, the campaign hopes to reduce the amount of litter in the alpine areas and preserve their natural beauty.
