AUSTRALIAN BEEF SUSTAINABILITY

ANNUAL UPDATE 2020

The Australian Beef Sustainability Framework (ABSF) was established by the Australian beef industry to help meet the changing expectations of consumers, customers, investors and other stakeholders, and promote the longevity and prosperity of the industry.

Bite was asked to design and format the 80-page 2020 ABSF Annual Update in a style that would fit with previous reports we have produced, but have its own distinct look and feel. Infographics were used to concisely explain content and large photos were used throughout (in particular as section dividers) to add visual interest.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY VICTORIA

PHILANTHROPY REPORT 2019-2020

St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria produces a yearly report to highlight the results of the organisation as well as showcase the past year’s events and good works. Vinnies decided to switch from an Annual Report to a ‘Philanthropy Report’ so that they could feature more human-interest stories and have the additional benefit of using the report as a marketing document.

Bite designed this 28-page report for the 2019-2020 financial year featuring a hand-written typeface for key headlines, to provide a more personal feel. These headlines play on the St Vincent de Paul Society’s positioning statement ‘good works’ by varying the second word depending on the topic.

For example: Cost of Living = Good helps; Food Insecurity = Good feeds; Homelessness = Good cares; Education = Good educates.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this report was created as an online web-ready PDF only. To enhance the online experience, a navigation menu was created for the top of each page.

FUTURE FUND

ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018

Currently responsible for around $170 billion in assets, the Future Fund is a sovereign wealth fund that was established in 2006 to assist the Australian Government’s long-term financial position.

Bite has designed and produced ten Future Fund Annual Reports over as many years. Working on a project of this type requires a compliance to project milestones, total accuracy, flexibility with author’s amendments and ultimately a non-negotiable deadline as the report is tabled in Federal Parliament.

As complete confidentiality is critical, Future Fund had full confidence to entrust all of this sensitive information with Bite.

CURRIE COMMUNICATIONS

SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2019

Currie Communications, a public relations agency focused on sustainability, has become the first Australian PR firm to be a certified B Corporation (meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance).

We featured infographics, diagrams, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and striking full-page images highlighting Currie’s three main areas of impact (society, clients and operations).

Designed as an online PDF, Bite incorporated a navigation bar at the top of each page with buttons to help readers move swiftly to and from each section of the document.

DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS

PROFILING AUSTRALIA'S VULNERABILITY REPORT

A report for Department of Home Affairs, ‘Profiling Australia’s Vulnerability’, is the result of a year-long initial study of the causes and effects of disasters in Australia. It was initiated to help understand where to prioritise collective efforts to reduce loss and harm across society as a result of disasters.

As the text for this report was gathered from a variety of individuals, Bite was asked to edit the draft text to establish a common voice and tone as well as rectify any spelling or grammatical errors. Following approval of the text, Bite designed and constructed the entire report, sourcing appropriate images and developing graphics. As there were many stakeholders involved in this project, we needed to respond to a number of iterations throughout the project. As is the case with many of our projects, confidentiality was critical.

VICTORIAN ENVIRONMENTAL WATER HOLDER

SEASONAL WATERING PLAN

The Victorian Environmental Water Holder (VEWH) works with catchment management authorities and Melbourne Water to ensure environmental water entitlements are used to achieve the best environmental outcomes with water that is available.

Bite was commissioned to produce the 308-page 2020-21 Seasonal Watering Plan. The Plan provided a guide to how the VEWH and program partners planned to use the water available to achieve the best possible environmental watering outcomes in a range of climate scenarios. It represented a consolidation of proposed watering actions developed from a bank of local knowledge from regions and scientific monitoring programs.

Because the Plan contains so much information, there was a tight timeline to complete the project with clearly defined milestones established. Bite met every milestone and the client was delighted with the result. Bite was subsequently awarded the 2021-22 Plan.

AMES

ANNUAL REPORT

AMES is an Australian not-for-profit organisation providing settlement, education and employment services to thousands of migrants and refugees each year.

Bite was commissioned to produce an Annual Report consisting of two sections: a Narrative section and a Governance & Financial section. We met the brief with a visually dynamic report that highlighted the diversity of AMES stakeholders through the use of outstanding images and inspired page design, use of statistics as graphic devices and breakout boxes on each spread.

This report was a landmark publication for AMES and they were so delighted with the result, they adopted the look of the report for their publications’ visual identity.

Bite Annual Report included in the 100 Best Annual Reports in the world

Each year Graphis, the New York-based pre-eminent international publisher of books and magazines on communication design, invites leading professionals from around the world to be considered for inclusion in their design, advertising, posters, photography and annual reports Annuals.

Bite submitted the AMES Annual Report and was rewarded by winning a Silver Award and being included in the Graphis Annual ‘100 Best Annual Reports’ for that year.
